Youngest to trek to South Pole

Lewis Clarke, a 16 year old from Bristol has become the youngest person to trek to the South Pole, surviving 48 days at temperatures as low as -50C and winds of up to 120 mph. Clarke arrived at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station at 18:00 GMT on 18 January after completing the 1129.79 kilometre journey from the Antarctic coast. The earlier record was held by 18 year old Sarah Mc Nair Landry from Canada who covered the same route in 2005.
