Cyrus Mistry beat four others to win the the $50,000 DSC prize 2014 for South Asian literature for his book Chronicles of a Corpse Bearer – the story a Parsi priest’s son’s love for the daughter of a corpse bearer. Mistry’s earlier work includes the screenplay of Arvind Desai ki Ajeeb Dastaan, and the novel Radiance of Ashes. The winning work has been described as talking about “Life, death, questions of universal meaning and justice”.
