Saving education

 

 

This refers to the cover story "The Man...AICTE" (TSI, July 26-August 2) and the editorial (TSI, July 6-12) "Ten things...". The flaws in the existing educational system need to be removed giving way to a perfect and befitting system. HRD Minister Kapil Sibal’s agenda for replacing existing, by and large corrupt institutions, such as the UGC, the AICTE and the MCI with a new set of institutions is a welcome step. At the same time Kidar Bansal who adamantly refused to bribe the corrupt AICTE deserves all appreciation for exposing the corruption prevailing in the field of higher education. The uncontrolled mushrooming of diverse engineering, medical, management and other colleges, even in the far flung areas of the country even without meeting the necessary requirements is a direct proof of the corruption prevailing all over. The government must take strict action against them and such corrupt officials should be rooted out from the system.
