Preetham Gubbi-directed 'Jaanu' which released on June 1st, has turned out to be the highest grosser in Kannada actor Yash’s career. In the first weekend of release, Jaanu has grossed Rs 1,90,00,000. Comparitively, Yash’s previous film 'Lucky' had managed to get the producer a share of Rs 1.06 crore in the entire first week. Before that, 'Kirataaka' had managed a producer’s share of Rs 80 lakh in the first week. Jaanu has broken all previous box-office collections of Yash’s films hands down. In this background Yash discussed about his films with TSI's N K Suprabha.

What is the specialty of your new film ‘Janu’?
It is a cute love story with a perfect blend of action. The flow of cinema is entertainment oriented as it is an entertainment based movie. We have made the movie keeping in mind the audience expectations.

What are the reactions you are getting after this movie?
If you see the box office report you will get to know the opinion. We are getting good collections everywhere. In this media rich age, if a film is not good, the next show will demonstrate the plight of the movie. If people are watching it again and again this means that they liked it. I am very happy with the audience reaction. We are getting extra ordinary reactions in first week itself. I hope that this film runs housefull in coming weeks.

So do you think that not that you are getting sucess all your earlier films were flop?
No, my previous movies were not flops and they ran reasonably well. My last movie ‘Lucky’ ran for 50 days in several theaters and 75 days in one theatre. Before that ‘Kirathaka’ also ran for 100 days in one centre and 50 days in the other 23 centers. If my films were not able to get good box office report I would not be here signing movies. If one actor is booked for five movies and is giving dates to other, then it means that he has proved himself on the box office. My upcoming movies and remuneration are a proof that I have good market.

How important is Janu’s success for your film career?
Honestly, I don’t know. I think it is the audience who should decide that. For me every movie is important because I put equal effort in every one of them. People like my movie and they are coming to theater to watch the same is important to me.

Do you like to see the success of your movie or success of your character?
I want to see my movies running successfuly at box office. My character’s success is also equally important for me. If there is any mistake in my acting I try to rectify the same in my next movie. There is lot of people involved in film making and related works. That is why film’s success matter more than my character success.

Is ‘Janu’ is running successfully because of your charm or because of director’s effort?
Director is the main reason behind the success of every film. My charm can run a film for early 2-3 days of the release. Charm can only work out in the early days. Afterwards direction and other aspects of the movie become important. We actors put equal effort in every movie. It is the director whose role is more significant. Film’s success goes to director.

Give one reason why should people watch this movie?
I am not that mature to suggest as to why one should watch this movie. Who ever wants to see the movie and is interested in watching good movies can come to watch Janu. There is lot of entertainment, sentiment elements which usually audiences expect. Today there is belief that people are not watching Kannada movies and there is lots of hue and cry over Kannada film industry problems. But as per me that are all a big lie. Audience has given big boost to all of my movies. ‘Rajadhani’, ‘Kirathaka, ‘Lucky’ all these movies got good collections. So, I think audience watches good movies and leave bad ones and am thankful to them for that.

Why did you choose this movie?
I find it a time pass movie in all aspects. I had opportunity to act as well as do fight scenes and dance sequence. Good love story is there. So, I thought people will definitely love this movie.

Are there any challenging scene in this movie?
Action scenes in this movie are quite challenging.

This is director Preetham Gubbi’s fourth movie. What is your take on his direction?
He did a wonderful job with Janu. He is originally a writer and that is why he kept in mind small things. People are enjoying a lot about his direction techniques. He was improvising small elements at the spot which made the movie very different.

After all these years of journey in sandalwood where do you see your place?
I don’t know. May be I will find my place in my fan’s heart.

Are you still a struggling star or a proved star?
I don’t know. How can I decide that? Audience should decide that. I think I am getting good films, getting good remuneration. I am happy in life. I am leading peaceful life. People follow me where ever I go and talk to me with love. How can I say that where is my place in industry? I don’t know. I am an actor. People will decide my place.

What about your next movies? What is your hope on those movies?
I am acting in Yogaraj But’s movie ‘Drama’. I am doing director Preetham Gubbi's next. I am hopeful about all of my movies. I am enjoying acting in ‘Drama’. I am sure that people will like this movie.
