Long way to go on gender gap

101 in 136 is India’s rank on the Global Gender Gap Index compiled by the World Economic Forum. In some consolation, it has moved up four places on the listing that is compiled on the basis of indicators of political empowerment, economic empowerment and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival. The country remains at the bottom of the BRICS list, and its best performance is on the indicator of political empowerment on which it stands ninth. Economic empowerment, which has seen four African countries leap into the top 30, remains poor and the country ranks 124 on it, while the worst rank is on the health and survival indicator on which India stands second last. On educational attainment the country stands 120th.It notes India’s struggle to demonstrate gender parity.
