Dr Harikrishna Devsare, writer of over 300 books for children and former editor of the much loved magazine ‘Parag’ passed away at the age of 75. Devsare inherited his love for stories from his father Iqbal Bahadur who was an occasional writer and from his grandfather who would tell him stories every evening. His childhood home in Satna was frequented by literary giants like Amritlal Nagar. Known for his disdain for stories that centered around kings, fairies and ghosts, which he believed promoted superstition in children, his stories and one act plays were on science, sports and mysteries – opening the eyes of young readers to new possibilities. He also wrote scripts for serials, telefilms and programmes based on science and technology. His list of honours includes the Bal Sahityakar Samman, Bal Sahitya Samman of the Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan, Kriti Samman (2001) and Sahityakar Samman (2004) of Hindi Akademi, Delhi.
