Why 17 years?

 

 

Arindam Chaudhuri has rightly said that politicians engaged in the war of words after the Liberhan Commisssion Report and Action Taken Report on it were tabled in the Lok Sabha in order to score brownie points over their rivals. It's a sad reflection of the state of affairs prevailing in our country. An issue raked up after a lapse of 17 years and similarly, a report which took 17 long years to probe and conclude just indicting a few BJP and Hindutva leaders without recommending punishment, is a drain on the exchequer. And when everyone knew the truth of the unfortunate incident, Justice Liberhan taking so much time and indicting AB Vajpayee and exonerating Narasimha Rao is a mockery of the justice. The whole exercise by the government in instituting an Inquiry Commission appears farcical, It's sad that even after 17 years, the government is indecisive and groping in the dark to fix responsibility, which clearly reaffirms that our system is not geared up to deliver justice in time. The government should seriously contemplate in overhauling the system for better functioning of democracy and governance.
