Your eye catching cover story, "Born on 26/11” (TSI, Nov 23-29) recalled the memory of the Mumbai attacks – one of the biggest terror attacks in the history of the country. Though, for the public and the rest of the world, memories of the martyrs may fade away but for the families of those who laid their lives on duty for the nation, the sacrifice of their children remains a fresh but painful and an unforgettable memory. The 26/11 terror attacks confirmed the worst fears about the toxic dimensions of terrorism and nontraditional threats to nation's security. Our country is being targeted because of its diverse population and economic and democratic development as a prospective major global power in the world. Now the terrorists also have access to latest technology, communications and resources. The damage done by the terrorists should serve as an eye-opener for India to tackle the menace effectively. What we need is a data bank to keep track of suspected terrorists, sharing of information between countries affected by terror or potential targets and for that we require a strong network centric system. All countries should make a collective endeavour to eliminate terrorism. Almost every nation is facing the threat. Hanging Kasab will not address the real problem as he was a mere pawn in a cynical game being played to divide India and to create fear. The international community should, therefore, come together to eradicate the common enemy.
