True spirit

 

 

Heartiest congratulations for article "Of the people, by the people, for the people" (TSI, Nov 30-Dec 6). The story of Shakeel Ahmad is inspiring and educative in many ways. When state assemblies and the Centre fails in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities, when most political leaders are cheating the innocent electorate, here is an ordinary citizen of the nation injecting true democratic spirit in the rural people to achieve positive results. He richly deserves that affectionate name given to him – 'Pul-babu'. Azamgarh villagers have proved that the spirit of self-reliance can do wonders. The bridge worth Rs 2 crore will inspire future generations to dedicate themselves. Our freedom movement itself was a saga of self-reliance and sacrifice by millions of ordinary people. It's sad that our mainstream newspapers do not have enough space or willingness to highlight such stories.
