The winners of Rs 3,000 are... Dishonesty & ethics

TSI's sting operation, "India Naked," (Sept 21-27) exposed the true colours of India. Corrupt politicians, corrupt judges, corrupt police officers, corrupt bureaucrats, etc. are looting our country for the last 60 years. Now even private players have joined the bandwagon. Till now, they all have been nothing but thiefs and criminals. But after reading TSI's expose, one won't mind naming them terrorists within India. The most disquieting aspect of the widespread corruption in India is the fact that it is not confined to politicians or government alone. It is prevalent amongst almost every section of the society at every level. As the practice of corruption is a dishonest act, one has to think that most of the Indians are dishonest, which could be different only in a degree between the individuals.

"A Walk in the Woods" with KV Dayal was an encouraging story of a common man. We are losing world's forests at an alarming rate due to agricultural expansion. Through his success, Dayal is, in fact, no less than an icon for others who want to save the planet earth. He is right to say that if the concept of self-sufficiency is adopted by every man on this earth, then we need not worry about nature's fury. It's not just possible by growing number of trees. It's equally important to keep ourself committed to the cause and adopt self-sufficiency in daily chores – it can solve all our problems.

Going Economy! Going Mass! Going with the Common Man! These are no more just the English phrases but the new marketing strategies of Indian politics. It is everywhere – in newspapers, magazines, and TV channels. The common man is going gaga over the phenomenon of this going economy, without realising the effects of this marketing strategy, which has been used by every MNC, be it HUL, P&G or TATA NANO. Now Congress is using it. It's a great marketing tool in the hands of political parties to reach a place where it matters the most – the common man. By travelling economy class, politicians are exploiting the opportunity to show that they are not flamboyant personalities but rather equally vulnerable as the common man. They are playing well with the psychology of the common Indian man. On the other hand, if we see this as a great cost cutting tool, then why just travel economy? There are other measures also that they need to think about. One such problem is that of providing ministers with too much of security. The total convoy that travels with them is a complete wastage of nation's resources. They need to cut down on their residence and electricity bills, the maintenance of their huge gardens and so forth... The list is exhaustive. And nobody is interested in costing. In fact it's a great marketing case study to penetrate in the hearts of the common man.
