The profundity of pro-democratic revolutions in Arab states has multifarious historical connections. The motive behind NATO to support, finance and militarise Libyan or Syrian liberators to depose Gaddafi or Al-Assad and their regimes are not hidden and definitely not to see Libyans and Syrians attain liberty, freedom and democracy. It has far deeper interests in the resource-rich region.

To comprehend the broader picture, one needs to scrutinise the concealed intentions of a superpower when it invades a nation or a region – power, profit and unchallengeable dominance. Unfortunately, they remained the prime factors for the distinct relationship that exists between the US and the Arab world. The US has invested ruthlessly to conquer the region but had to rejoice only partially. Though, its concerted efforts made Saudi Arabia and Egypt its allies, but that worked a little on Syria and Iran in Middle East and Libya in Africa. There is no iota of doubt that this has been the single biggest failure of the US and its closest ally Israel in the region. However, the Israeli connection is not a surprise in this context. Since then, their ego to raze these three nations has gone to the dangerous height. Fight in Libya is on and liberators are about to take over Tripoli. Iran, in comparison, is too tough to break especially with Syria being Iran's closest ally. Thus, the whole concentration is on Syria now.

Though the Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad should resign at the earliest but there are reasons why the ongoing protests are outrageous and can be defied constitutionally. Interestingly, Al-Assad is showing flexibility on protestors' demands. He has shortened mandatory military conscription from 21 months to 18 months, released over 200 political prisoners, around 120,000 Syrian Kurds were given citizenship and also agreed to talk to oppositions. Even then, the high intensity of protests only reflects grimy intentions of the calculating West which continues to finance protestors, as exposed by Wikileaks. Russia’s envoy to NATO, Dmitry Rogozin recently revealed that NATO is preparing to attack Syria with a much broader vision – “The noose around Iran is tightening. Military planning against Iran is underway. And we are certainly concerned about an escalation of a large-scale war in this huge region.”

Although there seem to be a lot of dissimilarities between Bush and Obama, they remain the same when it comes to their imperialist policies. Obama only seems to be more tactful. Bush Invaded Iraq and Afghanistan and drew criticism. Obama is invading Libya and Syria, yet, there are fewer fingers pointed towards him. In short, their methods may differ but policies remain the same. And we’ve not even started talking about petroleum reserves.
