Tamil Nadu fishermen outraged over US shootingThe unprovoked firing on innocent fishermen by US naval personnel at Jabel Ali harbour near Dubai on Monday which claimed the life of an Indian fisherman has fueled anger among the fishing community living along the Rameswaram coast in Tamil Nadu.

When TSI contacted the deceased A Sekar's uncle Muththaiya over phone, his voice was filled with anger. "Even three days after the incident no officials from our governments visited us. Just now ( 1.00 P.M on Wednesday) only a head of the local Taluk office came and met us," he said.

"They were not giving any assurances. But we want to know what the US and UAE governments are going to do for our families. We want compensation from them. We will not accept his body unless we are assured of justice by the government,"  Muththaiya.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha has announced a compensation Rs 5 lakh for Sekar's family and Rs. 50,000 each to the families of the injured. Major political parties, including ruling AIADK, have demanded that the culprits be booked for the crime.
