Indian journalist Shubranshu Choudhary, the founder of CGNet Swara has won the 2014 Google Digital Activism Award trumping Edward Snowden. He has been recognised for using mobile phones and Internet radio to bring news from inside the forests of Chhattisgarh to the world in the local Gondi language. In his acceptance speech, Choudhary said of his innovation, “This way we will create news which is by the people, of the people and for the people”.
