This is with reference to "The Ten things Kapil Sibal must do for Indian education" (TSI, July 6-12) by Arindam Chaudhuri. The report on world development 2000-01 indicated that the biggest problem of poverty is the lack of power and it is directly related to lack of knowledge. About one billion people are illiterate as they lack basic skill to acquire knowledge. Basic knowledge completely helps the mass in choosing the right government. Enhancing the primary education will support the other sectors of the economy. Ministries, factories, hospitals and farms in developing countries often work inefficiently, not because the people working there are not capable but because they lack the right knowledge and skills. The idea of giving free hostels to schools in poorer regions is a very valid point. Kapil Sibal is going on the right track. A full fledged educated India will fulfil the dream of a fully developed country. Our country needs the light of primary education in every house, every corner of this country.
