Senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and state committee member K P Mary's husband  MC Mathew quit the party on Tuesday expressing displeasure over its functioning.

He said that his decision is personal and not applicable to the political activities of his wife.

Mathew was a prominent CPM leader in Idukki district and was a powerful leader in Thodupuzha. He also served as party's district secretariat member.

Mathew was the first Idukki district secretary of SFI and has been a party member for the last 40 years.

Most senior CPM leaders remained incommunicado when TSI tried to contact them for reaction.

The party is still licking the wounds of recent resignation of other party leader R. Selvaraj. Selvaraj resigned from the assembly seat and from the primary membership of the party last month.

Last year fire brand SFI national leader Sindhu Joy quit the party and joined Congress.

Several other senior party leaders also left the party last year and joined the Congress.
