Sunday will never be the same again for Kolkatans. As per Railway minister’s version, instead of 2 pm, the Kolakata Metro will start its services from 10 am particularly on Sundays.
Talking to media, the Railway minister Dinesh Trivedi confirmed this. Obviously this will be another experiment. And if all goes well, then this will certainly be the phenomenon. Considering the huge puja-rush in advance, the ministry also seems to be all set to run an additional 32 trains from next Sunday. The ongoing process of extending the evening time metro-service is also in their mind.
Starting from re-naming most of the metro stations of South Kolkata, replacing several new coaches with the earlier ones to introduce three AC rakes - Though she couldn’t get rid from all debates but at her term as Railway Minister, Mamata Banerjee (the now CM of Bengal) had done a lot regarding this life-line of Kolkata.
Needless to say, being a nearest one to Ms. Banerjee, Mr. Trivedi also walking on the same path. And as expected he echoed a big ‘NO’ regarding the metro fare hike, which has not been done for several years. In front of Media, he had only to say- “This has not been thought of yet. Though fuel prices are rising day by day at a high speed, but we don't want poor passengers to suffer.”
