All of us know that chimpanzees (and other apes) cannot speak. However, researchers from the Emory University’s Yerkes National Primate Research Center studied more than 1000 videos of interactions between apes and came up with an interesting find that these apes used sign language to communicate their needs! Right from picking a fight, showering affection, and begging for food, are supported by unique gesticulations. Researchers are now trying to find out whether these gestures were the foundation of the origins of human language.
