The operation, 'tri-junction,' by deploying central forces to meet the Maoists' challenge (TSI, Nov 9-15) may not augur well. Relying solely on paramilitary forces and their officers, drawn from other areas, will prove counter-productive. To make such operations successful, practical knowledge about the nuances of the people as well as the terrain and topography of the particular area is extremely essential. Local police stations keep authentic records and play a central role in such operations. Even a general of an army cannot be a substitute for a good station house officer (SHO) in such vital operations. A sound and honest plan should be chalked out beforehand for the rehabilitation of the Maoist cadres so that they can rejoin mainstream life.
