Kerala’s Department of Education has printed 3.38 crore school text books in excess to what the state needed which has resulted in losses of crores of rupees to the department.
Kerala Books & Publications printed 93.7 lakh books in 2009-2010, 70 lakh in 2010-2011 and 175 lakh in 2011-12. Out of 70 lakh books printed for the 10th standard students of 2010-11, 30 lakh turned useless because of the change in syllabus, resulting in losses of Rupees six crore.
It is being alleged that these losses are the result of deliberate corruption. It is also being reported that vigilance enquiry into these losses is under consideration of the department.
