Is Bollywood going back to Eastern India?

With the news of Abhishek Bachchan likely to appear in a Bhojpuri film and many Tollywood producers approaching Shahrukh Khan, it seems that Bollywood is returning back to Eastern India.

Bollywood’s bong-connection is nothing new in Indian film industry. Starting from Devika Rani, Ashoke Kumar, Kishore Kumar, Mithun, Sharmila Tagore, Jaya Bhaduri to modern day’s Rani Mukherjee, Pritam, Riya Sen, Raima, Koena Mitra and Konkana Sen Sharma, Bollywood is still blessed with numerous talent of Bengali origin.

‘Ticket to Bollywood’ still observed to be one of the sweetest dreams of Eastern-Indian filmy aspirants. Bhojpuri film industry is also not far behind having their iconic figures like Ravi Kissen, Shweta Tiwari in Bollywood.

But after a huge gap, Bollywood is looking to back to the eastern India. After his father Amitabh Bachchan acted in three Bhojpuri films, son Abhishek is set to follow suit. The 36-year-old is most likely to appear in the upcoming film of the megastar’s make-up man Deepak Sawant.

And of course there stands a high possibility to have Bollywood Badshah SRK as the protagonist of a Bengali film. Sources from Tollywood reveal that, numerous Bengali filmmakers are considering the time to be the most appropriate to bring him on Bengali silver screen.

Considering his popularity as the owner of this IPL’s dark-horse KKR and state’s brand ambassador, it seems that majority is trying their level best to rope him in. Internationally acclaimed Bengali filmmaker Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury has already done with his three commercial ads with SRK. Though, Don is yet to give his consent to any of these feature-film proposals.

But is this really namumkin? Doesn’t looks so. Particularly after the recent success of Sujoy Ghose’s Kolkata-based Kahaani, a true flop but debated-enough Paoli-casted Hate-story and the raising expectations toward Anurag Basu’s upcoming Darjeeling-based Barfi, Bollywood seems not in a mood to just overlook the increasing Eastern-demand. Same is the thing for SRK too. During the Prayag film-city inauguration he confirmed that he would go as per his level best to promote Bengal both as the state ambassador and actor.
