In need of a facelift

Prasoon S. Majumdar is right that museums and art galleries are pride possessions of a nation, (TSI, Sept 13-19). Preserving and exhibiting artefacts of various ages including heritage and culture enhances a country's image in the international arena. However, it is shocking that in 63 years of Independence, no government deemed it fit to make adequate financial allocations to give a facelift to museums which are in tatters. As a result, most of the museums have become mere monumental pieces unworthy of visiting. Internationally, it is a proven fact that artefacts belonging to different eras displayed in museums with short notes not only give a fillip to tourism but to economy as well. One wishes the government wakes up now to revamp the decaying museums to international standards to enhance its image and pride in the international arena.
