Going going...Reclaimed!

 

 

It is said that a loser finds difficulty in every opportunity and that it’s the other way round for a winner. Who would have thought that one could unearth a treasure in the scrap of someone else? Razen Cain did just that and to describe his art in a nutshell – he purchases discarded, incomplete or, at times, badly painted paintings and re-paints them. In the process, he completely revamps them, making them replete with a new theme and sells them to people who are appreciative of his makeovers of paintings.

Cains, who lives in a Florida suburb, has never been to any fine arts school. He has always found the time to rummage through local and online junk stores and almost always has found artistic jewels (read other people’s failed attempts at art), which he hangs on his walls to ruminate over about possible new backgrounds, colours and themes. The magic begins once a mental picture is made of its new identity, which is brought to life with masterly paint strokes.

Many people believe that what Cain does is nothing less than plagiarising and scavenging on the ideas of others. Razen Cain addresses such cynics by defending his profession and claiming that it none other than him who is preserving the discarded pieces of art for posterity. Whatever the case maybe, because of his keen interest in the unusual, we get to see the reclamation of wasted pictures and scrapped paintings!
