Wind from the woods The Big B-ollywood family

The Bachchans have towered over the industry for many decades now. Harivansh Rai Bachchan mesmerised us with his poems, Amitabh became the unrivalled Superstar of the Millennium; the petite Guddi Jaya, waltzed into Amitabh’s and our hearts, and today’s generation apes Abhishek’s grooves just as earnestly as their parents once learnt to heart Amitabh’s dialogues! While Shweta will soon be seen on the small screen, the latest addition to their family is the world’s most beautiful woman – Aishwarya Rai. With wax statues of two of their family members in the esteemed Madame Tussauds, this family is undoubtedly larger than life! Wind from the woods The Kapoors’ Karisma

Meet the family with a passion for films running in their veins for the past five generations. The patriarch of the family, Prithviraj Kapoor, was a theatre veteran and a celebrated film actor, whose Prithvi Theatres is still playing a pivotal role in Indian theatre. A glimpse at this first family of Bollywood would spring names like the legendary Raj Kapoor, India’s very own Elvis, Shammi Kapoor, his wife – the acclaimed actress Geeta Bali – the dashing dude of the 70s, Rishi Kapoor, and his life partner and costar Neetu Singh, to the award winning actress Karisma and the very sexy Kareena. With their persisting penchant for acting, directing and producing, there’s no doubt that as long as there will be movies, the Kapoors will remain the golden family of the Indian silver screen. Wind from the woods For ever and a day!

What happens when two families like the Mukherjees and Samarths come together? You get a legendary family that has been around since the wee stages of the Indian film industry and one, which is still running strong today. Producing noted names like the pioneer Sashadhar Mukherjee, Dadamoni Ashok Kumar, hit star of the 60s and 70s Joy Mukherjee, 1952 Miss India and a successful actress Nutan, pretty Tanuja, her charming daughters Kajol and Tanisha, their talented second cousin Rani Mukherjee; no wonder the family has made an indelible mark in the minds of the Indian audiences. With critically acclaimed actors like Ajay Devgan joining the family, this is one gene pool that just gets better with time! Wind from the woods Fonda’ them all!

Lookers all, the Fondas! Almost like the patriarch of all good looking actors in Hollywood, Henry Fonda, and his lineage put together could very well make for a great ensemble cast anytime! Father of Jane Fonda, the finesse of the Fondas was no more evident than in that adorable movie of 1981, On Golden Pond, that won the benign old man his Oscar for Best Actor in the very year that was felicitating him for lifetime achievement too. The incredibly talented Jane could, of course, never restrict herself to the great movies that she did, with a penchant for everything from politics and fitness. While Easy Rider son Peter Fonda deserves as many words, grand daughter Bridget kept the versatility flag flying high until she was at it. Growing Fond(a) or Fondas growing? Wind from the woods Kirk’s kin: A mixed bag

The Douglas clan has been a vital part of Hollywood ever since the gravelly-voiced Kirk Douglas broke into movies in the 40s and achieved his niche by playing characters he liked to describe as “sons of bit**es”! His first of two wives was actress Diana Dill and their first born Michael would go on to become an Academy and Emmy award winning actor. Michael added oodles of glamour to the family as he married the gorgeous Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2000. Joel and Peter remain the underdogs of the family, while Cameron, Michael’s son, is the next Douglas to watch out for.
