FRIED JUST RIGHT!

 

 

Anyone whose favourite pastime is worrying about creative ingeniousness and its standing in the Indian film industry can find something else to occupy themselves with. For, Sagar Ballary’s Bheja Fry re-affirms the faith of all movie buffs ever hopeful of cinema’s rightful raison d’etre. Even though reprising the plot of French film Le Diner de Cons in customised, contemporary Indian settings, Bheja Fry also reminds one of the only intelligent comedy in recent times, Khosla Ka Ghosla. Devoid of big stars, yet bustling with underscored talent, this play-like fare has the audience pleased as punch at the end.

The plot is unconventionally simple. Ranjeet Thadani (Rajat Kapoor) is a self obsessed, music company owner, whose ‘only stress busters’ are Friday night ‘talent hunts’ where he and friends get together and make fun of some folks of questionable intelligence. However, circumstances force Ranjeet to spend a night with his one of his ‘talent’ finds, Bharat Bhushan (Vinay ‘WOW’ Pathak), an income tax officer cum singer cum innocent buffoon. The stage is set for a night full of arguments, misunderstandings, showdowns and much more. The laughs just keep coming; in fact, more than a few are set to bring the house down.

In such a movie, where performances, or the lack of them, are the only things noticeable, every single actor can feel proud of this one in his/her repertoire. While Vinay Pathak drives home the point of comic timing, Ranvir Shorey does his hilarious best too, and so also the rest. Go, have fun!
