Twenty four MBBS students failed in the final year examinations of Calicut University. They approached Kerala High Court on the matter and later got the court verdict in their favour.
All 23 had failed in the final year examination as they fell short of 5 marks in their practical exams.
According to medical council rules there is provision for giving moderation if somebody falls short of 5 marks in any of the subjects. On the above ground the students had approached the University for giving the moderation marks. However the request was rejected by the University.
The students then approached the court with the argument that their marks should be moderated as they had fell short of only 5 marks in their final exams. Based on the argument the Kerala High Court ordered to give grace marks to the entire mentioned students and declare them passed. The Court also ordered to declare the results in four weeks.
Here in the above story, it does seem that moderation is okay. And yes it is, if student aren’t to fail in examinations. Yes, for some harmless professions it is alright. But, when it comes to handling the health and life of another human being, is not. I am sure all of reading this story would like to be treated by a doctor who had got the “licence” purely on the aptitude and ability and not because of a judicial verdict. Think again!
