DMRC takes train to Metro Yard for examining

As a follow up action for Tuesday night incident, in which a youth had to travel from one station to another with his hand struck in the sliding doors and his body outside the train, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has taken the train off the tracks.

According to sources, Metro officials at one hand tried to down play the incident by not reporting it to police on the other hand took prompt action by sending the train to the Metro Yard for examining the defective functioning of the sliding doors. Investigations on the train were carried out the entire day on Wednesday.

The Metro officials had rushed to the spot soon after the incident. After providing first aid to the victim Sunny Kumar, the officials managed to persuade him not to report the incident with the police.

The Sunday Indian had exposed the incident on Wednesday morning. When TSI tried to confirm the incident from the Metro police chief and about the action taken in this regard, he had stated the police had no information about any such incident.

Meanwhile, after the Tuesday night’s incident, the DMRC has issued advisory advising commuters not to force open the doors along with some other cautions.

Sources said the train was examined the on Wednesday for technical faults. The metro train doors are fitted with sensors, which can detect any object that may come in between sliding doors. Under normal circumstances if anything comes in between the sliding doors, sensors sense it and the door does not close.

The incident had taken place at about 11.00 p.m. on Tuesday. The victim Sunny Kumar was trying to catch the last trip of the train when his hand got struck into the sliding doors and he had to travel from Janakpuri west to Janakpuri east station with his body outside the train.

Sunny was trying to board the train plying on Dwarka Sector 21-Noida line and was bound towards Rajiv Chowk.
