DMRC stops work after 'Akbarabadi mosque' discovery

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has stopped the construction of a station near the historical Jama Masjid as the metro workers reportedly found ruins of a mosque built by Mughal emperor Shahjahan in the 17th century.
The discovery of Akbarabadi mosque has set the alarm bells ringing with the DMRC, the Delhi government and Archeological Survey of India (ASI) went into a huddle to resolve the issue. The digging work was being carried out for the construction of Jama Masjid Metro station as part of third phase of metro expansion.
After the reports of mosque discovery, Matia Mahal MLA Shoaib Iqbal is supervising the digging work at the site for the last three weeks.
It is said that the mosque, situated at Netaji Subhash Park, was built by Shahjahan for her wife Akbarabadi Begum in 1650 AD. According to reports, Akbarabadi Begum translated the holy Quran from Arabic to Urdu at the mosque site.It took two years to built the mosque with a cost of Rs 1.5 lakh. The mosque was demolished by the British after they had quelled the sepoys mutiny in 1857.
According to ASI norms, no construction can be carried out around 100 meters of any heritage site. If any agency wants to do any construction around 200 meters of heritage site then the said agency should take permission from the concern National Monument Authority (NMA) or ASI.

Dr. D N Dimri, Superintending Archaeologist said," I went to the site with my team and we are now preparing a report to be submitted to the higher authorities.”
When asked about the historical relevance of the site, Dimri, told TSI, “The stone wall structure clearly shows that it is a Muhgal period mosque, but we do not have enough evidence to say it is 'Akbaribadi Masjid' or the part of it". "If higher authorities suggest, we will go for a proper investigation to find out the historical relevance of the site", he added.
Meanwhile, MLA Shoaib Iqbal emphasised on restoring the site to its old glory that is the 'Akhbaribadi mosque'.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a DMRC official said that no construction work could be carried out after the discovery of the said heritage structure.

And I respect this enthusiasm by my core of heart. But I request all Muslims for performing 5 times Namaz in their areas or colony's Mosque, because it is seen that our mosque is vacant and we are fighting over the other mosques.
