Bihar government is open to the idea of opening a centre of the Banaras Hindu University at Motihari in East Champaran district if BHU moots the proposal, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said today.
Responding to a resolution by BJP member Avnish Kumar Singh in the assembly urging the state government to set up a BHU centre at Motihari, Kumar said that it would be considered if such a proposal came from the central university.
Referring to the setting up of a centre of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Kishanganj district, he said land had been acquired for the purpose.
The AMU had initiatially proposed to set up its centre at Katihar, but the state government prevailed over the university to consider its proposal for such an institute at Kishanganj in view of backwardness of the area.
