Dark days
The recent water crisis in the metro cities once again exposed the hollowness of our extreme claims of being the World's next superpower. It is in reference to “Water woes....” (TSI, July 8). When a country has failed to provide the basic facilities to its urban citizens, then just imagine the condition of the rural people, who has been struggling with the same problem since so many years.

Unfortunate beings
The article 'Ghosts of the Past' by N Asokan (TSI, June 17) on the displaced Tamil ethnic minority of Srilanka presents a pathetic picture of the country and calls for diligent efforts by the centre. These unfortunate people now crave for a dignified living of their own choice, away from the nightmarish miseries they have undergone through all these years. The efforts of former Tamil Nadu CM Karunanidhi, irrespective of his motives are laudable and should be encouraged providing all resources from the centre before it is too late.

Infected Army
Apropos “Generals in Sukna scam” (TSI, July 8), I would like to comment that a “Tale Re-told” is not merely a news item but a reminder for all the countrymen and defence forces in particular ,that the law do not spare even a very senior officials for any corrupt activities. It also goes to prove the degree of aberration that has infected the Indian Army which till now regarded a selfless and corruption free service. But unfortunately the aberration has infected the very ethos and high tradition set by our predecessor. Therefore, the army should endeavor to bring back their lost purity, high tradition and ethos. Thus it is incumbent on the senior army officers to set an example and make defence sector fully corruption free.
