AMWJU celebrates 39th Foundation Day

All Manipur Working Journalists’ union celebrated its 39 years on Sunday at Manipur Press club.

Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, Chief minister O Ibobi Singh assured that matters related to the development and welfare of the media fraternity would be looked into and brought up for discussion in a cabinet meeting at an appropriate time.

While appreciating the responsibility shouldered by the media persons in providing information, the chief minister also expressed his displeasure on the frequent threats and harassment of certain armed groups on media persons and appealed all concerned to stop such acts.

“In a conflict situation, the state media plays a very critical role in providing such information; media are the eyes and ears of the general public, so such acts of harassment of certain groups should stop at once,” he said.

As a part of the foundation day celebration a number of retired journalists were also presented gifts on the occasion.
