A tragic tale

 

 

TSI deserves kudos for ruminating about the 25-year-old Bhopal gas tragedy through article “The night that never ended” (TSI, Dec 14-20). In fact, when the world is agog over the significance of the Copenhagen meet, the Bhopal gas leak incident seems to be buried in the past. It's a shame that the victims are still screaming out for proper justice by the lackadaisical authorities. The irony is that the Union Carbide Plant is still there to thrust the people all around to the jaw of death. It's a tip of the iceberg when the industrial pollution of the country is taken into account. If the influential industrialists can always have their way then saving the earth from man-made disasters would be a distant dream. The common people will pay the price for the unchecked economic growth backed by industrialisation. The government's apathy towards the victims is as harmful as an ozone hole or a melting glacier. Any kind of double standard in hoodwinking the citizens is not a good omen for the country.
