A soft history of Infosys

 

 

“I want to tell you something... I am 5'4" tall. I come from a lower middle class family. I can never become rich in my life and can never give you any riches. You are beautiful, bright, and intelligent and you can get anyone you want. But will you marry me ....” These lines not only changed the then Sudha Kulkarni’s life but heralded India’s entrée into the IT world and become a global player!

You guessed it right. This is how NR Narayana Murthy of Infosys Technologies Ltd proposed his lady love Sudha in 1970s when both were in Telco (Tata Motors), Pune. They shared thoughts and twined together inseparably. Sudha put forward Murthy’s proposal to her father, only to get rejected at first. Cause? Murthy didn't have a decent job till then. In 1977, Murthy got a job as the assistant manager with Patni Computers in Bombay. Sudha’s father finally agreed to their marriage. Murthy conceived Infosys in 1981. The couple had nothing but vision and zero capital. A small house they bought in Pune was the first Infosys office. Later, they shifted to Bangalore. The rest is history, which went along with the Infosys.
