A Housewife Deserves Praise

 

 

Kudos to the TSI for being the first magazine raising its strong voice through its editorial (TSI, Aug 23- 29) against the administrative impertinence of clubbing housewives and women engaged in domestic work with the categories containing prostitutes, beggars and prisoners in the census. Supreme Court has also slammed the administration for the same. Is it that in our progressive society today, the housewife has lost her identity or is it that she is being taken too much for granted? This kind of categorisation of housewives is not just discriminatory but is outrightly illogical. Terming her unproductive is baseless when she alone is adding on an average Rs 78,000 per year to the economy by supporting her family in numerous ways. To run a household is a tedious job.
