Transparency needed
Thanks for your excellent edit on “Service Providers or Rent Seekers” (TSI, Aug 16-22). It’s really shocking to see some of the airlines making money out of a disaster. The incident related to Leh and hike in air fare would definitely shock anyone as it's not ethical. In case of disasters at least, the private airlines should have social responsibilities to extend their support to the needy people. Instead of helping, if they increase the fare then it projects a negative attitude. More ironical is what our Civil Aviation Ministry does in this regard. Are they aware of these things or are also part of it indirectly. Things must be transparent and there should be a genuine reason when the prices are hiked. The ministry has more responsibility in this regard; in case of disasters, they should extend full support to the needy. I urge the Civil Aviation Minister to wake up and extend support to the people who are stuck in the calamity. The Aviation Ministry can make special arrangement in case of any disaster occurring in any remote area or hilly terrains of the country.

Incomparable China
Referring to edit on growth in China (TSI, Aug 9-15). We compare the recent economic performances of China and India using a simple growth accounting framework that produces estimates of the contribution of labour, capital, education, and total factor productivity for the three sectors of agriculture, industry, and services as well as for the aggregate economy. Let's get real, India is nowhere near to China. Look at the way our government is handling a big event like Commonwealth Games and the way China executed the Olympics. With the kind of corruption and lax approach, can we even dream of equalling China, forget about surpassing them! Time and again, everyone points out why China will lose out. That does not make us any better. We have our own bureaucracy, politics, judicial system, health, infrastructure, social system , education etc to fix. Only then, we will make considerable progress in all fields. Only then we can dream of being a superpower, else it is all but a daydream!

Trim food wastage
It refers to Prasoon Majumdar's “Food for Thought” (TSI, Aug 9-15). He has beautifully put up his thought about something that we usually leave unnoticed. Yes, the effective and judicious utilisation of resources is the buzz word these days. But Majumdar has intellectually advised an alternative to use kilos of food that is wasted every day after hundreds of elite parties. His idea for using the unclaimed bank money for various development initiative is appreciable. It is again said that in this cut throat economy, the focus of India should be effective and efficient utilisation of every resource. He aptly said, "For a country like ours, every bread wasted would leave an empty stomach, somewhere". We need to be constructive and quick in our thoughts and take initiative to utilise unused and undiscovered resources to make this world a better place to live in.
