Uninor looking for new partners: MD

Managing Director of Uninor Mr. Sigve Brekke is optimistic of coming out of the 2G crisis and looking for new partners ahead of the Supreme Courts recent judgement.

Mr. Brekke is also the Vice President of Telenor Group and also heads the Telenor Asia Operations on Friday said, “We are looking for new partners in India and discussions are going on with four to five institutions.” However, he refused to disclose the names of the institutions but said, “We will reveal the names in the middle of the case.”

The company presently has services in 13 of the 21 circles in India. Telenor holds 74 per cent shares of Uninor.
Mr Brekke claimed, “Telenor will continue to hold 74 per cent stakes, while rest of the stakes will be offered for the partners.”

While admitting that ‘Past few weeks have been a little turbulent,’ he announced, “Uninor services are continuing and we intend to continue competeting in West Bengal and Kolkata circles.”

Uninor has already met Prime Minister and Union Finance Minister, admits Mr Brekke. However, industry sources view it as an effort to come out of the ongoing crisis.

He also participated in a road show for Uninor at Beleghata, where staffs and subscribers of Uninor were present.

Mr Brekke’s presence helped Uninor to re-assure company’s effort to come out of crisis and regain faith from subscribers.

Uninor claimed to have a 5.6 million combined subscriber base in India with 1.8 million subscribers in Kolkata and 3.9 million subscribers in West Bengal circles. Recently, to expand base in Kolkata and West Bengal, Uninor introduced a Rs 39 ‘Poila Baisakh’ recharge voucher with four facilities.
