Talking over mobile phone inside court room is not contempt of court: HC

Madras high court has passed a judgement that talking over mobile phone inside the court hall without disturbing the court proceedings will not amount to be a contempt of court.

The judgement was passed on a contempt petition filed by Neelamegam, an advocate in the high court, against the use of mobile phone inside the court room.

Replying to the petition, Justice K. Chandru said that using mobile phones inside the court room without disturbing the proceedings does not amount to contempt of court.

“However, it is up to the Judges of the concerned courts to decide whether the usage of mobile phones is disturbing the proceedings or not,” Justice Chandru said.
