Massive blackout after power grids fail

With the northern grid failure again, Delhi and various other areas in neighbouring states faced a power cut for the second successive day on Tuesday.
Top officials said the grid failed at around 1:30 PM following which power supply snapped in all areas of the national capital.
Services on all six lines of Delhi Metro were disrupted due to tripping of power supply in the northern power grid for the second day Tuesday.
"Due to northern grid failure, all train services have been suspended and entry to all stations stopped. The trains, which are plying right now, are being brought to the nearest station for evacuation," a Delhi Metro official said.
The Delhi Metro normally operates over 2,700 trips a day, covering about 70,000 km and carrying around 1.8 million passengers on week days.
Entire north India had plunged into the worst power crisis in a decade on Monday throwing normal life out of gear for several hours in eight states due to collapse of the Northern Grid.
At around 1:30 PM, Delhi had a demand of around 4,000 MW out of which only 38 mega watt was being supplied at around 1:45 PM
