Anjali Gopalan, the founder of the Naz Foundation (India) Trust has been awarded France’s highest civilian award - the Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur, for her work on transgenders and HIV positive patients. In 2012, she featured in Time magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people. In 2005, her name was proposed for the Nobel Peace Prize. She returned from New York to India in the early 90s to focus on margi alized communities.
