Working for us Can germs actually be good for us? New studies say that the answer is yes. It has been found that there are actually more bacteria present in one’s gut than the number of cells in the entire human body! For instance, between 500-1000 species of microbes are found in a person’s intestines. One of these – Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron – helps to break down indigestible nuggets of food into sugars, thereby producing carbohydrates that the body can use.
