To re-map heritage buildings throughout the state and to revive the golden image, the ‘new’ Bengal Heritage Commission now seems to be all set to fly with a fresh approach. Sources revealed, the process is very much on regarding drawing up the fresh list of such heritage sites.
During an official meeting in Kolkata on Tuesday, the commission also suggested for a heritage museum at the earliest. The next meet has been scheduled on July 27. Talking to media, the Bengal Heritage Commission chairperson, painter Subhaprasanna confirmed, “Making a new list is no doubt a huge task as it is clear that the earlier entries were made chaotically. So ,henceforth, we have decided to study the background of each and every building and will decide on the merits all over again.” The indication of some major replacement in entries was also there from the chairperson.
As per the meeting, the entries will be made with the consultation of each District Magistrate across the state; whereas for preparing the list of Kolkata, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has been given the responsibility. And to obtain the decent pace in terms of restoring the buildings, the commission is also planning to tap foreign investment (such as France, UK) through the UNESCO-like agencies.
