Vanishing Anna effect

Just a few days ago, whole nation was in a hymn of Anna's crusade against corruption... 'Stop corruption'... 'Anna ki Jai'... 'Shame on you Indian government', blah-blah was in the air.

Almost everyone was with Anna Hazare, from the BPL level to the affluent class, all of them wanted Anna to be the winner. The whole scene will be remembered as an important part of Indian history. Nobody is going to forget Anna's crusade against corruption.

But the question that comes into my mind again and again that how many people follow the path showed by Anna or you can say how many of the protesters were actually fighting, by truly understanding the cause, in real?

Let me share an incident here... Yesterday night, I somehow got down at Govindpuri metro station and took an auto to reach Tara Apartments. In the meanwhile, I asked the auto driver to stop in between as I wanted some chips and cold drinks.

Being a responsible auto-driver, he did so. The shop was about to close as it was bit late; 11.30 pm, I asked the shopkeeper for a 2 litre of Coke bottle and four packets of my favourite Lays Indian Magic Masala worth Rs 55 and Rs 10 respectively.

I gave him a Rs 500 rupee note, at first he denied to give change but when I insisted, he agreed to give the change. I asked him, “How much the bill is?”

He replied, “ Rs 120...” with a dash of assertion.I again counter on it; I was little astonished as I have already calculated the amount and asked, “How come! The chips are just for Rs 10 and...” ; “Not 10 but Rs 12...”, I was stopped by him in the middle of my question.

At first I thought that may be I am wrong but when I saw the printed price at the backside of the packet, it was Rs 10 only. Now I angrily asked him that, “Is this the India Gate?”. He also replied back in the same tone saying, “It is not India Gate but India, so you have to pay the night charge!” leaving me speechless.

'Night charge for chips! weird and shocking... Isn't it? So it is the condition of our country where people don't hesitate a single time to cheat people and in a way promoting corruption.

Corruption is everywhere, the auto-drivers who supported Anna Hazare like anything, still charge ruthlessly without using the actual meter-reading or talk about the businessmen who actively took part in the anti-corruption protest, fence their taxes and so on.

The young lads who were roaming on their bikes waving the Tri-colour in their hands in the name of supporting Anna Hazare, were just ruining the nation in the name of saving it. Traffic chaos, hooliganism, eve-teasing, drunken people misused the fact that police will not arrest them. Now where is the patriotism feeling and 'josh' for India and where is the 'Anna call'???

Well, corruption is a never ending process, actually by paying him the desired money I also promoted corruption unknowingly. "Human tendency is to take the shortcut and think about oneself first. It is so so fundamentally correct... We all are corrupt, and we will always be corrupt (not just Indians, but anyone else too)". To eradicate corruption we need to check ourselves first. Atleast, those who supported Anna, please by doing it or by promoting it (corruption), don't insult his motto.
