“So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart!
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters”
Amazing lines, aren't these? No wonder, these lines come from the heart-touching song 'Nothing Else Matters' of 'Metallica' - the world known American heavy 'metal' band (here metal refers to the genre of music that they play).
For music lovers, particularly guitar and rock music, Metallica is so common name that one can just hum songs keeping eyes closed. But for those who know not the band, I must tell that Metallica is the most famous band in the world if we talk about live performances and album selling. People go gaga over them, their foot-tapping and mind blasting beats.
Pick up any song like Fade To Black, The Day That Never Comes, One, Enter Sandman, The God That Failed, Whisky In The Jar, Master Of Puppets, Sad But True, Turn The Page and many more; there are countless to go crazy over. One should actually listen to the songs because of their incomparable guitar notes fused with drum beats (For me it is par).
My first encounter with Metallica and its magic happened two-and-a-half-years ago, introduced by my not-so-serious but amiable and die-hard Metallica fans – my all time favourite and dear stress-buster 'Juniors' (only academically though). And it gradually engulfed my mind too; now I always look for a reason to talk about them and listen to their songs. (It has become so natural just because the band consists of four amazingly handsome guys with immense talent- it is like Pizza with extra cheese and toppings).
Anyways, to mention a few of my bom-blastic group, two of them play awesome guitar, in that way being crazy about Metallica also becomes natural.
In a few days, the band is visiting India to make the dreams of their fans' come true and for a never-to-forget rocking performance (28 Oct- Delhi, and 29Oct – Bangalore).
Like every other fan of Metallica, we also tried to get the concert tickets like anything, just to catch a glimpse of Kirk Hammett, the lead guitarist (actually handsome with long curls and on top of that he can tune a guitar in just 7 seconds...WOW!); James Hetfield, the lead singer/ guitarist; Robert Trujillo, the base guitarist, and with a bang Lars Ulrich, the extremely talented drummer (he can actually make you go dance even on open roads). The tickets are definitely available, but somehow we couldn't make it; can it be any worse?
This is probably one of the most disappointing moment of our life (for me because I was unable to arrange the tickets, and for the duo, for not being able to watch their dream band performing live). But this can never damp the spirit within us in any case, especially for them, because they have been cherishing the dream of playing guitar just like Kirk Hammett. We can still spend a whole night discussing and listening to Metallica songs by only sipping tea and fagging around, sometimes shaking our heads insanely to the beats in between.
We can't hope for better luck next time, because it will be Metallica's last world tour. But it is such an urge, such a dream that will remain fresh forever. So now I can only wish that they (my academically-juniors, who play guitar) themselves start playing like their Gods so well that we could see an Indian version of Metallica.
For Metallica – “Go on hunks...you guys rock! Love ya like 'death metal' and nothing else matters!!!”
