The Delhi Police's Special Cell on Friday arrested two suspected Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorists. The arrested have been identified as Sarvpreet and Jaswinder.
Police recovered 3 Pakistani .30 bore star make pistols along with six magazines and 45 live cartages from them.
Ashok Chand, the deputy commissioner of police, crime branch said, based on intelligence inputs that militants in Ford Ikon car would be coming to a market in Shalimar Bagh area of Delhi, a trap was laid and police managed to arrest Sarbjeet Singh, who hails from Ropar in Punjab. Police also recovered 6 mobile phones and a laptop from his possession.
Sarbjeet was a school drop out and in 1993, he was found to be involved in a murder case in Anantpur Sahib, Punjab, police said. In 2009, he was involved in a case of drug trafficking in Patiala. Since then he was absconding.
Sarbjeet went to Ranchi from where he got his passport renewed and in March 2010 he went to Hong Kong to meet his friend Kulbir Singh, who is an active member of BKI. At Kulbir’s instance he joined BKI and was promised all type of help, including financial support.
Sarbjeet was asked to recruit Sikhs from Delhi and Punjab and promised them of supply of arms and ammunition, explosives and rocket launchers for carrying out their job of eliminating religious leaders and political leaders during forthcoming elections.
Sarbjeet returned to India and started living in a rented accommodation in Shalimar Bagh, Delhi. He roped in his childhood friend Jaswinder Singh who hails from Ropar and lured him with huge amount of money.
Sarabjeet was in constant touch with Wadahwa Singh, the BKI chief, who is believed to be in Pakistan, police said.
