Following her decision to withdraw support from the Congress led United Progressive Alliance, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee has declared that all six TMC ministers in the Union Cabinet will resign on September 21.

The two parties came together in 2009 ahead of the Lok Sabha polls after a long drawn tussle over seat arrangement, obviously Mamata had her say. Soon after UPA's victory lap in the elections, Banerjee pounced on the most lucrative birth in the cabinet viz. The Railway Ministry. Here's a look at what Mamata's aides have been up to for the last few years as part of their respective ministers.

Mukul Roy was inducted into the Union cabinet after Mamata relinquished her Railway ministry to become the chief minister of West Bengal, barring the brief stint by Dinesh Trivedi who soured his ties with the party chief over his rail budget proposals. During his brief tenure, Mukul Roy has only managed to initiate a special train called "DU Gyan Uday Express". Blessed by a seemingly Bengali-sounding nomenclature, the train takes about 1000 students of the University on a guided tour of five destinations across the country including Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore and Wardha. Besides this, Roy's only claim to fame has been reversing the proposed hikes in rail fare initiated by his predecessor Dinesh Trivedi over which he was eventually sacked from the TMC by Mamata.

Another TMC leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay was inducted Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare. During his tenure in the ministry he was perceived more as the TMC face at the Center in the absence of Mamata Banerjee from the Capital. No path breaking ideas or schemes from this minister in his tenure so far. Of course, he did not forget to propose an AIIMS-like medical institute for West Bengal at Kalyani, about 50 km north of Kolkata.

In fact, the big accusation against TMC ministers in the Centre has been their loyalty towards Mamata Banerjee rather than the portfolios they are handling. The common refrain is that they spend more time in Kolkata rather than inside their respective ministries.

Other TMC ministers at the Centre have had equally forgettable stints in their ministries so far. There's Sougata Roy as MoS in the Urban Development Ministry. Uluberia MP Sultan Ahmed is Mos Tourism while Sisir Adhikari is MoS Rural development and CM Jatau is Mos Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The decision to withdraw support from UPA came after the West Bengal chief minister expressed her disapproval of the government allowing foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi brand retail, apart from the recent hike in prices of diesel and LPG.
