Tigress Sara gives birth to three cubs in Nandankanan

A tigress named Sara gave birth to three cubs in Nandankanan zoo on Friday. It is the first birth in the big cat family after the death of five cubs in November last year.

The newborn and their mother are under CCTV surveillance. After last year's incident, the zoo authorities have become more vigilant and were more than cautious to keep the cubs in good health.

The cubs were born to Royal Bengal tiger Sara. "We faced a lot of heat after the death of five tiger cubs earlier, so this time elaborate steps were taken for the upkeep of the cubs, as advised by the technical advisory committee of the zoo," Sudarshan Panda, Zoo director, said.

Five tiger cubs died in the zoo on November 18, two days after they were born. The zoo authorities had attributed the death to neglect by the first-time mother. Interestingly, Sara has also delivered for the first time.

Meanwhile, zoo authorities have barred visits to the area where Sara is being kept with her cubs.
