The winners of Rs 3,000 are... Nation building

I read your editorial on Shah Rukh Khan (TSI, Feb 8-14)with immense interest. However, I am a senior citizen born and brought up in Bombay and have spent about 32 years of my life there. Now I am living in Gujarat for the last 40 years. I enjoyed my stay in Bombay as much as I am enjoying it in Gujarat. I fully endorse your revolutionary ideas on Mumbai's SRK controversy. Shiv Sena's oft repeated claim of Marathi Manoos has lost its charm. Its supremo is respected by one and all, but its ideology irks people with rational thinking. Why did the party put forth the idea of pushing Marathi Manoos in all spheres of life? Instead of playing with the emotions of the people, it would be worth the while if they promote rich Marathi culture. As rightly pointed out in the editorial, the history reveals that Gujaratis and Parsis have contributed much more in the development of Bombay than any other community. When Shiv Sena attacked SRK for making a statement on the inclusion of Pakistan players in the IPL team, the party is talking about patriotism. I think they should revisit the pre- Independance era and discover the meaning of patriotism. However, SRK did not apologise to the nation for his statement but only regretted the inconvenience caused to his fans for the controversy. Though I have not seen his movie, the review awards five stars. I wish SRK invites the Sena supremo to watch his movie, so that all the negativities wade off. In fact, he should appeal to all his followers to stop destructive activities and do some constructive work for the nation. Hope good sense prevails.

Gujarat Well-deserved praise

This refers to the interview, "The state is back on track" with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar (TSI, Feb 8-14). The compliments that Nitish Kumar is getting from all corners are well-deserved because of his performance that has generated a positive image of Bihar. The recent World Bank Report on ‘Doing Business in India 2009’ also ranked Patna as the second best city to start a business and the third best city where lower courts solve commercial cases quickly. However, the power starved state badly needs constructive support from the Centre for fulfilling its requirement and developing the infrastructure. Maybe, a second-term for Nitish as CM will enable Bihar to run on fast track. Good luck Bihar!

Ahmedabad The winners of Rs 3,000 are... Silence speak

The Bollywood made us feel as if the real power is with the Sena. But the truth is that it isn’t (TSI, Feb 8-14). The editorial by Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri depicts the correct state of affairs. The repute of the city that made these stars is being jeopardised and the industry is silent. Only SRK raised his voice. Had the sainiks sincerely stood for the cause of the people then it would have had some real power. But what they are fighting over are issues that might even degrade the life of an average Marathi manoos. In fact, Marathi and non-Marathis should raise their voices and overthrow these hooligans out.
