TSI: Quality reading

With reference to the articles published in the magazine (TSI December 10, 2007), I would like to say it is the only magazine which updates its reader not only on contemporary issues but also on historical events. The letter written by Wilbur Wright was a surprise content. I am bored by the monotonous current entrepreneur stories in other business magazines.Flipping few pages I found another good article about the starting of Noble Prize.

Pune A rare visionary

The article ‘Looking towards West’, (TSI December17, 2007) is very interesting. Though the thesis has been ably argued, I have reasons to contest his approach. This talk of Islamic Economics can be seen as an extension of the late Palestinian thinker Ismael Raji al-Faruqi’s ‘Islamisation of Knowledge’ project wherein the entire corpus of Western knowledge was sought to be filtered through the sieve of Quranic paradigm. The only problem with this line of reasoning is that here the Quran is treated as an objective text with everything clearly delineated and backed by the consensus of the community. However, even a cursory reading of Muslim intellectual history would suggest that what actually constitutes this Quranic criterion has been the subject of much speculation. It has been fiercely debated, contested and also defended?

With reference to the article ‘Blood Billionaires’, is money making wrong and wealth creation a crime? We read one day that Mukesh Ambani is the richest man in the world, yet in a couple of days he drops down. But I think he is the same man and it's the system which helped him to rise and engineered his fall. The reference is a reflection of the society. The rich does not remain rich unless he makes an effort to get richer. The poor is always on a downward spiral. Everyone is greedy. It is the society that makes Billionaires and not the other way around.
