A bold expose
The editorial on George Bush is inspiring and also a bold attempt to expose Bush's true colours. This sort of courage is needed to educate people who have no understanding of the US president. His dictatorial actions are reprehensible, especially the attack on Iraq, which is an independent country where people have a choice to change the government in their own way. The role Bush is playing in Iran is also condemnable. America clearly wants to dominate the entire world. It is disgusting to note that our country, being the biggest democracy in the World, also submitted to the dictates of Bush by signing the nuclear deal. Democracy loving countries should come together and demand the trail of Bush for his war crimes.

A distant dream...
With reference to the special report, ‘India Whining’ (TSI December 10, 2007), development with social justice is still a distant dream. HDI figures are shocking. What is the importance of growth rate if benefits are not percolating to the needy? In the name of development, there is mass destruction of habitat, livelihood systems and ecosystems with thousands all over India becoming ‘development refugees’. I hope TSI’s valuable insights will enlighten our policy makers!

Judicial democracy
With reference to the article ‘Redefining Activism’ (TSI December 17, 2007), the relationship between the judiciary and the other two wings of democracy has come to a boiling point. The recent Supreme Court remark that courts should not try to run the government provided a sigh of relief to the Central government, aching for more freedom. However, the party didn’t last for too long. Another observation by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan that the Mathur-Katju judgment is not binding makes it clear that judicial activism would not get lost in the wilderness.
