The Anna Mantra

Kudos to the Editor-in-Chief for using his facile pen to bring to light the sad state of affairs of this rich and poor country: Rich in the sense that it is rich in all aspects and poor in moral values. We are really worried as to how we can weed out those corrupt elements, you are showing courage coupled with firm determination. You are really competent to declare a 'big reward' for this frail old man of ideas. Let others also emulate and vie with one another to reward him, accolade him and pay glowing tributes to him. We see in him as another incarnation of Gandhiji and his good works can never be futile. The great man's name start with kisan and only through mass movements of kisans can we become self dependent on food front and in other fronts too. The courage shown by you and other visual media in bringing to light as to what was going on. As democracy is not dead in India, let God shower his copious blessings on you to eradicate quisling corruption from Indian soil.

The World Post Osama

This refers to the editorial “Pakistan: The real rouge nation” (TSI, May 9-15). The killing of Osama bin Laden in territory of Pakistan and significantly at a hideout which is just a few kilometers away from the Pakistan military academy, and merely 60 miles away from Islamabad, only confirms that how rational was India’s demand that Pakistan is the haven for terrorists. But America is still in a state of fix as it still needs Pakistan's support to nab more terrorists, so neither it will support India's claim nor it will completely denounce it. India can now reap harvest from the fact that Osama was in Pakistan and can pressurise US to declare its neighbour as a rouge state. Moreover, post Osama the terrorist organisations, especially al-Qaeda, will now be more threatening than ever. They may use N-weapons to make their presence felt and their prime targets will now be US and India. Pakistan plays a crucial role over here and India needs to deliver timely diplomatic response to safeguard itself from any imminent threat.

Anna-Media Tango

Kudos to Arindam Chauduri for his write-up “Give credit to ...” (TSI, May 2-8), as it rightly brings out the electronic media's role in making Anna's movement a success. The protest by Anna could have faded out amidst hue and cries like what happens to most of the protests in India. But thanks to timely intervention of our hyperactive electronic media, the issue got the response it truly deserved. Anna Hazare had given shape to the hatred common man had against the corrupt Indian polity. No doubt it was Anna's initiative which forced  Lok Sabha to give thought to a bill that checks corruption, but it was the Indian media that brought the movement in sight directly or indirectly .
