The vanishing island

 

 

The largest inhabited river island of the world needs attention as the land in the island is being eroded and flooded by the mighty Brahmaputra. I would like to thank TSI for carrying out a timely article on Majuli, as the river island needs attention from concerned citizens from all over India. So far UNESCO has not declared the island a Heritage Site. The Brahmaputra Board is not doing enough to protect the island. As a result, protest rallies and agitations have been started by prominent students’ organization of Assam recently.  The state government is also not paying much attention. Through TSI, I would like to appeal to all concerned people all over India to raise their voice for the protection of this river island that is our pride. Let Majuli be a pride not only for the state but whole of the country.
